On Thursday, February 19th, five wrestlers from Pamlico County High School attended the North Carolina Wrestling State Championship in Greensboro, NC. Senior Isaiah Mewborn wowed the state, securing a first-place victory, and his teammates didn't fall short. Sophomore, Riley Treacy, placed second, and Senior, Syler Hall, placed third. Additionally, Sophomore, Adalynn-Kay Nunley, and Junior, Ayden Gomez, attended the championship, and wrestled strong, but didn't come home with a metal. Here's a look at each wrestler and their journey towards success.

Our State Champion, Isaiah Mewborn, says that it "feels good to be a state champion" and that "God helped him along the way" in preparation and throughout his wrestling career.

State Runner-up, Riley Tracey, says that he plans to "push himself to his full potential and win states," and that he was "proud to get second at states after not placing at regionals last year."

Third-place winner, Syler Hall, says that he had to overcome injuries and self-doubt, but his coaches reminded him to “wrestle your match, stick to what you know, and listen to your coaches.”

Our lady Cane, Adalynn-Kay Nunley, states that next year, she plans to "take every opportunity even more seriously," and that she has “learned to look at my accomplishments as a benefit, as well as my losses, failures, and successes are both a large portion of the learning process.”

Finally, junior Ayden Gomez says that he "overcame his challenges by reminding himself that one loss does not define him," and that he will "battle back."

Great job to all of our Wrestlers! We are excited to see what next year holds for you all!
