If you guys hadn’t heard already, the PCHS Symphonic Band got a superior on May 1st after achieving excellence two years in a row. This is also known to be the highest superior this band has ever gotten! This is a huge accomplishment not just for our band, but for all the arts in Pamlico County as well. This shows the potential and hard work that the students, teachers/directors, chaperones, and other beneficial members show.

So, without further ado, let’s hear what some of our band members have to say about this!

Z’rya Squires - Flute/Drum Major

I feel very good and super excited about the superior we got. My favorite part of this band trip had to be Busch Gardens, but another good part about this trip was playing and making the music sound as fun as it could be. If I were to have changed anything, I would’ve rented out the entire amusement park for the whole weekend while we were there.

Mia Angelo - Flute

I feel great about this superior. I think we did a really good job. My favorite part about the trip was definitely the actual playing part– and, if I could’ve changed anything, it would have been the amount of time we had to practice when we got to our performance spot.

Isaiah Rodriguez - Tuba

I think this superior was very well-earned and completely deserved– we did a phenomenal job performing for the judges. I liked how there was a big box of honey buns in the back of the bus and how I probably tore through three boxes with my hotel mates, so that was probably my favorite part. If I could’ve changed anything, I would have changed the way attitudes were at the beginning of the process.

Kris Ormond - Percussion

I feel really, really good about this accomplishment. After the kind of drought we had, I feel like this was very rewarding. I feel like the bus rides up there are always the most fun since there’s always so much anticipation just waiting to perform. I definitely would’ve changed the whole Washington D.C. fail and the way we lined it all up– however, it was still pretty great, and I feel like everybody had a lot of fun.

David Mewborn - Tenor Saxophone

I don't feel too bad about the superior; I’m pretty glad that we were able to play at such a high level. I really enjoyed being able to play together with everyone and how everything was able to line up like we wanted– when we play songs as they should sound, it feels all worth it. If I could’ve, I would’ve tried to change certain things in our performing and song qualities—but, I feel like all problems turned out small since we got a very high superior.

It’s safe to say that the band was able to come out with a bang! Everyone seemed so well-spirited and stuck together through the whole process.

The band seniors who are graduating and Kris–who is moving to NCSSM-Morganton–will be greatly missed. But,--even though it won’t be quite the same--it's always possible to make new memories and have more-than-great experiences.

Thank you for reading, and have an amazing summer, everyone!
