Halloween has been around for a long time. It was said to have begun in the ancient Celtic era, over 2,000 years ago. They threw a festival and wore costumes to ward off ghosts. In later years, Christianity had spread to Celtic land and churches created All Saints' Day. This was actually known as a very religious day where people would dress up as angels and devils as a way to honor the dead. It was called All-hallows and the day before it was called All-hallows eve and then, eventually, Halloween. Halloween spread to many parts of the world. In Mexico, it is called The Day of the Dead or Día de Los Muertos, where people give offerings and honor their dead relatives. It is called Samhain in places like Ireland and Scotland which was what the original festival was called. It is said that the tradition of trick-or-treating came from the Celtics giving offerings by the form of crops and clothing.
